Young Doctors Make A New Breed Who Work For The Public Good

Jobs in medicine have long been desired by youthful people who want to make a difference. But recently the focus has shifted to those fields of study where the monetary rewards and other material benefits of a medical career are passed over in favor of the personal fulfillment one achieves by working for the public good. As a person looking for doctor employment you should visit that site.

One young man recently turned down job offers of more than $30,000 from organizations including medical schools, drug companies and private foundations. Instead of accepting that salary, he’s getting $12,000 a year working for an organization he started as a medical student. A commitment to the advancement of the level of medical care being provided in the United States is what drives this doctor, as well as the others of this new breed.

He says he’s not interested in practicing the “traditional” methods of medicine. The purpose of his government funded institute is to analyze the educational, medical, dental, and legal needs of specific communities, and his institute has been doing this since it’s inception four years ago. He believes that one cannot consider health care issues by themselves, that you must study the overall needs of the entire community. The issue here is that there are such few opportunities out there for students who would like to grow within this niche.

The U.S. is experiencing a crisis within the health field. Still requiring encouragement, the medical schools are attempting to make changes and focus more on an outreach. Under these circumstances, the help is our medical students; practically all of America’s medical schools have implemented new classes in community medicine as part of their program. Today, the majority of students studying medicine know about the issues facing the nation, and wish to work to change them. As a person looking for jobs in medical field you should visit that site.

According to the dean of one of the top medical schools in the country, today’s students have a stronger sense of social awareness, a genuine spirit of compassion, seriousness of purpose, and deep-rooted concern for injustices. He is even seeing a deficiency in the sense of humor of current students, as opposed to students from past generations, as a result of their drive and passion for achieving their goals. Medical students desiring to implement real change will also work harder to realize their goals and see real change. For these individuals, the lifestyle that we have come to associate with doctors, the big cars, golf games and material wealth, is less of a motivation. Success in the chosen field has less to do with social status.

Previously, doctors were primarily concerned with their social success and the amount of money they could earn. Their society was kept by more elitist and recreation oriented people and their goals were more material and organization based which allowed for greater security, affluence and comfort. Current students are beyond comprehension should your beliefs and standards be from an earlier generation’s opinions.

Our nation is going into a new era for community medicine in which students are more worried about the way medical care is provided to every part of society, which is founded on need instead of finances. Leaders in the medical reformist movement cite the failure of the medical care crisis to improve in spite of the billions of dollars spent annually and support smarter spending in an effort to stem the growing numbers of individuals and families with little or no access to affordable health care. In actuality, it could even get worse if the changes are not enforced quickly enough.

An organization has been created to encourage and help medical students to dedicate their skills to areas of public health, environmental health and preventive medicine. Across the United States, medical projects based in communities are subsidized by this organization. The mission of this organization is to make community health projects a part of all medical schools’ curricula.

In keeping with this trend, many medical school students will graduate and choose to return to the areas serviced through these projects and establish their own medical practices. Reaching out to the communities that they are serving, you will find the med schools and hospitals wanting to recruit minority men and women to train for medical careers, in addition to the setting up of clinic and other community projects.
